This week, I've added new pipes from three Rattray's series: Dark Ale, Kyloe, and The Judge! While Dark Ale and The Judge pipes will become a part of my ongoing Rattray's offerings, Kyloe pipes have been discontinued, so the few I have are all there will be. Here's a bit of info about each of these lines:
The color of the Dark Ale series is reminiscent of brown ales from England and Scotland. The acrylic mouthpieces have a Cumberland look that is the perfect match for these beautifully dark-stained pipes. Rattray's Kyloe pipes are unique in that they are Canadian pipes with 9mm filtered, saddle stems! In appearance seemingly an extra large Lovat, the combination of long briar shanks and filtered stems make for a pipe that can handle any tobacco you give it, even those that may give you problems with tongue-bite in other pipes. The tall bowl makes for an excellent flake smoker, if you tend to fold and stuff your flakes. And finally, The Judge series of Poker shaped pipes features an aluminum base that is decorated with a laser engraving of Justitia, the Roman goddess of Justice. Perfect for an evening smoke, no matter the trials of the day.
Peterson's Dublin Filter series, which I've carried for about a year, was the first and only 9mm filtered series available to the US market. But it's apparently been successful enough for Peterson to introduce a second 9mm filtered series in the form of the new Army Filter pipes!
Peterson's Army Filter pipes bring the timeless aesthetic of the popular Irish Made Army series to a 9mm filter arrangement! Specially designed for smokers who prefer the use of traditional 9mm filters and available in smooth Heritage and dark Sandblasted finishes, each pipe is drilled with a 9mm airway and topped with a hand-shaped nickel army mount, allowing the pipe to be disassembled even when hot. This push mount system is a staple of the Peterson brand, and I'm so happy to present these 9mm versions to you!
As with all of the 9mm filtered pipes I carry, these new Army Filter pipes will fit the Peterson, Savinelli, Stanwell, and White Elephant 9mm filters, which I have in stock in the Accessories section. If you struggle with tongue-bite (and I'm among those ranks), I strongly encourage you to try out charcoal filters, which for me personally, completely eradicate the issue! But if filters aren't your thing, these pipes can be smoked without a filter in place, if that's your preference. But it's certainly good to have the option at least for those blends that tend to nip at you.
Keep 'em lit,
Good news: Due to some recent changes to the site, I'm now able to sell and ship pipes and accessories to residents of all 50 states, and around the world! This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time, and circumstances have now come into play that allow for it.
While this is great news for many of you, it's not all peaches and rainbows. Due to the increasing state, federal, international, and merchant services regulations regarding pipe tobacco sales, I'm unfortunately no longer able to sell pipe tobacco directly on the website at this time. Although I'm unable to accept online payment for tobacco, I do still sell pipe tobacco. Please read the details concerning pipe tobacco sales on the Tobacco page of the site, here.
While I understand that it would be more convenient to purchase tobacco directly on the site, I'm thankful for my loyal customers who continue to support The Pipe Nook! And for my customers in all 50 states and around the world, this is the opportunity to finally purchase pipes and accessories directly on the site! Hey, you win some, you lose some. Rest assured, The "little pipe shop that could" is here to stay, and will continue to offer pipes, accessories, and tobacco to as many people as I can!
Keep 'em lit,
I'm partial to rusticated finishes. I love the tactile nature they provide while smoking. But as much as I love my rusticated finishes, I do sometimes miss the beautiful natural grain patterns found in the briar of smooth finished pipes. Wouldn't it be nice to have both? Ah, but that's just (forgive me) a pipe dream, right? Enter Savinelli Alligator pipes!
The Alligator series dresses some of Savinelli's most popular shapes with a mixed finish of deep rusticated grooves and smooth-polished panels, resulting in a texture and aesthetic much like that of an alligator's hide. It's also one of Savinelli's most colorful series, with deep blues, warm reds, emerald greens, and more understated browns, all matched to their own complementary-colored swirled acrylic stems. I'm partial to the blues and greens myself, but there are so many shapes in all four finish colors that I love! Now that these beauties are here at Pipe Nook HQ, my biggest struggle is keeping myself from adding another 2 or 3 of them to my own personal collection. There's just something unique about these pipes that simply can't be found in any other pipe series, and I'm very happy to finally have them here at The Pipe Nook.
While you're checking out the various Alligator pipes, keep in mind that they will all fit the new Savinelli 6mm charcoal filters, which I have in stock in the Accessories section. As careful as we may be, some of us are just more prone to tongue-bite than others. For those folks (and I'm in that number), Savinelli 6mm charcoal filters can keep these gators from snapping at you by making tongue-bite a thing of the past! If you struggle with tongue-bite, I strongly encourage you to try out charcoal filters. But if filters aren't your thing, all Savinelli pipes can be smoked without a filter in place, if that's your preference.
Keep 'em lit,
There are a handful of pipe accessories and pipe cleaning products that I've been asked about several times from many of you, and I'm happy to announce that I now have them available! In addition, many of you have wanted to view your previous purchases here at The Pipe Nook, and I've finally found a way to provide that as well! Read on for more information. . .
Many pipe smokers like to protect their pipe stems and their teeth by using soft rubber pipe bits. I've found 2-Packs of these which are made by BJ Long, the makers of my favorite pipe cleaners! I've also found a way to provide metal wind caps, to keep your pipe tobacco in the pipe and to protect your lit tobacco from windy conditions if you smoke while outdoors. I've also partnered with Briarville Pipe Repair & Restoration to provide to you the same pipe care and cleaning products that Rich uses to restore pipes in his shop! This includes No Oxy Stem Oil, Pipe Stem Oxidation Remover, and Pipe Cleaner & Sweetener! You can find these products and more in the Accessories-->Miscellaneous section of the site.
And by popular demand, my customers are now given the option to create an account on the site, which enables you to view your purchase history! There is now a "Log In" option on the site menu, where you can create an account. This will retroactively work for all of your past purchases, provided you create your account using the same email address that you placed on those previous orders. This is a feature that many of you have asked for over the years, and I'm pleased to be able to provide this functionality to you now!
