It's been a long time coming, but I've begun to introduce Peterson pipes here at The Pipe Nook, and I'm getting started by rolling out my personal favorite, the Dublin Filter series!
Originally designed for the German market, these 9mm filtered pipes smoke cool and dry with the help of a 9mm charcoal filter. Any 9mm filter can fit, including the Savinelli balsa filters (with gentle nudging), if that's your preference. And of course, they can be smoked without a filter in place if filters aren't your thing. But it's certainly nice to have the option. I've come to love how much easier and more enjoyable 9mm charcoal filters make pipe smoking for me that a 9mm filtered pipe is always my first recommendation to new pipe smokers. It's tough to get me to shut up about it, honestly. :) There are 20 shapes in the Dublin Filter series, most with 3 variations: Rusticated with fishtail (standard) mouthpiece, smooth finished with fishtail mouthpiece, and smooth finished with the proprietary Peterson P-Lip mouthpiece. You can read about the P-Lip design in the individual pipe listings. I purchased a "test pipe" in the Dublin Filter series, and have been smoking it for the better part of 3 months. Then I added another. And another. Now, I have 4, and I'm eyeing a 5th to add to my personal collection! I understand now why Peterson has so many devout fans around the world. Peterson has distinct shapes and variations of standard shapes that are so unique that they just aren't found in other lines. Plus, they smoke so well, and look good while doing it! Peterson is a much celebrated company in the pipe world, and holds the record of being the longest continuously operating briar pipe facility in the world. Established in 1865 and still making their pipes in Dublin, Ireland, Peterson pipes have earned a place in many a pipe rack for more than 150 years! I intend to add at least a few more Peterson pipe series in the near future, so be on the lookout for that in the months ahead. I'm always up for suggestions, if you have a favorite line you'd like to share. But if you've had your eye on a particular Pete and don't care to wait, feel free to email me and I can place a special order for you in the meantime. Keep 'em lit, Eddie Gray G.L. Pease makes some of the best blends on the market today, with many of them becoming modern classics. I can't carry them all, but I've decided to add these three perennial favorites to The Pipe Nook stable: Cairo, Haddo's Delight, and Westminster! First, Cairo is a wonderfully complex mixture of red, orange and bright Virginia tobaccos, exotic Oriental leaf, and just a whisper of Perique. The flavor is naturally sweet, slightly nutty, delicately spicy and rich. Subtle citrus-like notes harmoniously support the more robust flavors of the darker Virginias. Cairo is a medium bodied but very satisfying tobacco with a delicate aroma that will be enjoyed by Virginia lovers and the connoisseur of oriental mixtures alike. Part of the Original Mixtures series. Next, Haddo's Delight is a stout blend of several Virginia tobaccos with a generous measure of long-cut perique. Unflavored Green River black Cavendish and a little air-cured white burley ribbon provide fullness, body, and a bit of extra strength. Finally, an exclusive process darkens and marries the mixture. The flavor is full on the palate, earthy, slightly sweet and intriguingly piquant, with overtones of figs and raisins. A wonderful blend for the perique lover! Part of the Original Mixtures series. And finally, Westminster is the very essence of the traditional English mixture; rich, elegant, refined and exquisitely balanced. New World Red Virginias are enhanced with a gentle caress of bright leaf, then lavishly seasoned with rich Oriental tobaccos and generous measures of noble Cyprus mountain Latakia. Westminster is a satisfying blend, presenting layers of flavor to delight the senses and develop in the bowl. A perfect everyday English mixture! Part of the Heirloom series. I hope you'll find a new favorite among these blends! In addition, if you ever wish to purchase an 8oz or even 16oz tin of these or any other GL Pease blends, whether I typically stock them or not, just send me a message. I'm always happy to create special orders for your personal favorites of anything within the pipe and tobacco brands that I carry! And don't hesitate to send me any questions you may have. I'm here to help however I can! Keep 'em lit, Eddie Gray |
