I admired Pat Higgins' beautiful handmade pipes from afar on Instagram long before I ever had one in my personal collection. Not long ago, we began conversing about the possibility of him creating a pipe for me. After a good bit of back and forth, we landed on the shape, bend, materials, finish color and accents I was hoping for, and it is a gorgeous pipe! Well drilled and expertly shaped and finished, my slightly bent, plateau-topped, Cumberland-stemmed P. Higgins pipe is a wonder to behold, and is one of the best smokers in my collection. I take care to present only the best reasonably priced Artisan Pipe Makers here at The Pipe Nook, and Pat Higgins is definitely among them!
A Word from Pat
"I am a long time hobbyist woodworker located in Central Massachusetts producing personal use items through general carpentry and furniture making to more specialized pursuits such as bamboo fly rod making. In recent years, I have fused my pipe smoking hobby with that of woodworking to satisfy my desire to own and smoke fine pipes. A software professional by day, I use my pipe making as a way to relax, escape and re-energize. I prefer traditional shapes and that is reflected in the pipes I choose to make. I am strictly small scale, creating 30-40 pipes annually. I believe that this smaller production allows me to leisurely gain the enjoyment and relaxation benefits that drew me to pipe making to start. All my my pipes are crafted from fine briar with hand cut stems from acrylic or ebonite and finished with a 3 step buffing and polishing for an attractive and durable finish. I offer a 2 week inspection period when pipes can be returned in unsmoked condition for a refund of purchase price. I continue to stand behind my pipes and offer repair or replacement for a period of 1 year for any defects in material or workmanship."
And now, a quick apology. I posted a presentation video a few days ago on my YouTube channel, and two of the three pipes Pat has sent me are already sold! The one I have left is the bent brandy, which is actually my personal favorite of the bunch. It features a light brown stain with a high gloss finish, swirled cumberland stem, and fluted acrylic accent band. As with all P. Higgins pipes, this one is expertly drilled and has with a bare wood chamber, chamfered delrin tenon, and a slotted and funneled stem, with an excellent attention to detail given to the button. However, I have already spoke with Pat, who will be sending me a new batch in the near future. So snap up that bent brandy if it catches your fancy as much as it does mine, before I decide I need it in my personal collection, and check the site from time to time for new pipes from Pat!
